What cyclingcreta provides you for a multi day bike Trip and what are the essential to bring on your own
The use of a helmet is mandatory. We do not give you a bike if you do not want to wear a helmet. With each bike, we provide you a helmet free of Charge.
The equipment that you get from us
Rear rack. Topek rear racks that can carry loads up to 20 Kilos. We can connect the rear rack only with the e-bikes, mountain bikes, and some of the gravel bikes. (extra charge)
Pannier bags: Ortlied water proof panier bags that fit on the rear rack. Each bag has a capacity of 20liters. (extra charge)
Charger: With every e-bike, we provide the appropriate charger. Tip: Fully charge your bike every night, even if you have enough battery from the last trip. Always check that the battery is charging.
Flat or Shimano SPD pedals: Ebike tip: With an e-bike, click pedals are not a must-have as on a normal bike. Instead, use flat, platform pedals, so you can ride with your hiking shoes or sandals and save room in your luggage.
Lock: Always lock the bike when you park it. During the night it is recommended to store it in a closed safe place.
GPS mounts or mobile holder: we can provide free Garmin and Wahoo GPS mounts as well as sturdy mobile holders for the handlebars.
Rear light: Greek drivers are generally used to cyclists, but some roads can be narrow. A rear red light, even during the day, to stay visible on those winding mountain roads it is a good idea.
Rear view mirror: upon request we can add on some of the ebikes a rear view mirror.
Elastic bands: If you ask, we have them. In case you want to carry an extra bag or item on your rear rack. Tip: Zip ties, the magic universal tool that fixes broken bags, destroyed shoe sole etc. If you want, we have them

The essential tools for a multi day bike touring trip in Crete
Your package list to bring with your luggage
1. The "Must-Have" Cycling Gear
Crete isn't flat. Whether you’re crossing the Lasithi Plateau or climbing out of Rethymno, you’ll be working hard.
Padded Bib Shorts (x2): Quality chamois is non-negotiable. Bring two pairs so you can wash one in the sink of your pension while wearing the other.
Lightweight Jerseys: Opt for moisture-wicking fabrics. Crete can get humid near the coast and bone-dry in the mountains.
The "Onion" Layers: Even in June, descending from a 1,000m pass can be chilly. Pack a windproof vest (gilet) and arm warmers. They take up zero space but are lifesavers on long descents.
UV Sunglasses: The Cretan sun is intense. Good eyewear protects you from the glare and the occasional persistent Greek fly.
Portable Power Bank: If you’re using your phone or GPS for navigation, the heavy climbing will drain your battery faster than usual.
Tip: A whistle is the most effective way to signal for help or warn your friends who have made a wrong turn.
2. The "Cretan Climate" Essentials
High-SPF Sunscreen: Apply it more often than you think. The breeze while riding often masks the fact that you’re getting toasted. Tip: lightweight sun protection clothes are better than sunscreen, and you avoid the chemicals.
Hydration Tablets: You’ll sweat a lot. Adding electrolytes to your water helps prevent cramping during those 10% gradients.
Lip balm: for sunnier, windier conditions.
Lightweight Rain Jacket: While rare in summer, mountain thunderstorms in Crete are legendary and sudden.
Mosquito repellent: At night, you want to sleep and rest for the next days trip, not hunting mosquitoes.
3. Off-the-Bike Comfort
Packable light Down Jacket or Fleece: If you’re staying in mountain villages (like Lasithi Plateau or Anogia), temperatures drop significantly at night.
Swimwear and Microfiber Travel Towel: You’ll pass some of the world’s best beaches. A quick dip is the best way to recover after an 80km day.
Flip-flops / Lightweight Shoes: Your feet will crave freedom after being locked in cycling shoes all day.
4. Hygiene: Staying Fresh Under the Mediterranean Sun
In a place where the mercury often hits 35°C (95°F), hygiene is about preventing infections and saddle sores, not just smelling good.
Biodegradable Wet Wipes: Your "mountain shower." Essential for when you’re in the wild.
Chamois Cream: Don’t skip this. The combination of salt from sweat and constant pedaling on steep Cretan inclines can lead to painful saddle sores.
Antiseptic Wipes & Wound Spray: Road rash from a slide on loose gravel is common. Clean it immediately to avoid "Cretan dust" infections.
Blister Plasters (Hydrocolloid): Even if your cycling shoes fit well, the heat causes feet to swell.
Rehydration Salts: Tap water in Crete is generally safe, but you lose minerals quickly on long climbs. Pack sachets with electrolytes.
Pain Relief: Ibuprofen (for inflammation) and Paracetamol.
Tweezers: Essential for removing sea urchin spines (if you go for a swim) or local thorns. They are also useful to remove thorns or small pieces of glass from the tires
The "Sink Wash" Strategy: Most Cretan pensions have deep sinks. Wash your kit immediately upon arrival so it has the whole night (and the dry Cretan air) to dry.
