Crete is one of the most famous islands for summer holidays. Millions of tourists visit the island every year for its beautiful beaches. All these people believe (before they visit the island) that all the Cretans built their houses next to the sea and they going for swimming every day. The reality is completely different. Cretans are mountain people and not seamen. Although now more than the 65% of the population on the island lives from next to the sea up to 100 meters of altitude, most of the villages are located on the mountains and not next to the sea.
