Once upon the time there was a village...
After 2014 when the damm Aposelemi was ready to get the waters from Lasithi plateau the small village Sfentili sank in the water of the Lake and emerged one year later. We have shooted some impressive photos from the same spot as the area of Avdou, Potamies and Sfentyli is one of our favorite in Crete for Cycling.
Aposelemis artificial lake with a capacity of 30.000.000 cubic meters is the biggest lake in Crete. the water springs from the Dikti mountains and Lasithi Plateau. In the past the waters from Lasithi plateau used to pass from Chonos through undreground caves and siphons down to Mesada area at Agios Georgios church and then to Aposelemis river. From 2019 when the artifiacial tunnel was finished the water travels from Vidiani monastery to the entrance of Ambelos canyon at Gonies village
