Cycling in Crete isn't a well-known sport. Finding a good bike to rent, group rides, or a good bike shop (with a variety of cycling stuff) in a is difficult.
As cyclists, we want to offer our guests a top-notch cycling experience. We offer high-quality bikes that are adapted to the Cretan terrain, and a service to feel safe in a foreign place.
How to Choose the Right Bike for Cretan Roads
Crete offers world-class riding, but its terrain is unique. When selecting a rental bike, pay close attention to these three core components:
Wide-Range Gearing: Crete’s mountain passes frequently feature sustained gradients of 8% to 15%. Ensure your road, gravel, or mountain bike features compact cranksets combined with big cassettes so you can spin comfortably on long climbs.
Durable, High-Volume Tires: Coarse asphalt roads, rocky gravel roads, and the summer heat demand quality rubber. Look for wide tires set up with strong puncture protection to handle road debris and goat thorns.
Drivetrain Maintenance: A worn chain or cassette will ruin a mountain climb quickly. We check the chain wear and inspect brake pads between every single rental.

At Cyclingcreta, we configure every bike specifically to master local road and trail conditions. Here is what you can expect when you rent with our bikes:
Drivetrains & Climbing Gears
Road bikes: Modern Shimano Ultegra Di2, 105, group sets with 11- 32T or 11-34T climbing cassettes and compact chainrings (50-34).
Gravel: SRAM Apex Mechanical and Rival eTap electronic group sets with 11-46T and 11-50 climbing cassettes and 42t cranks.
E-Bikes: Powered by high-torque 85Nm Bosch motors with 750-800Wh batteries to give you extended range across long mountain ascents. 36t cranks and 10-50 cassettes
Hardtails: Single 32-tooth cranks and 10-51t Cassetes for the steep gravel roads.
Tires
Road bikes: Fitted with premium 30–32mm puncture-resistant road tires for maximum grip and vibration damping on rougher road sections. (The bikes come with Vittoria tires; we generally prefer Continental Grand Prix 30mm tires with a tube)
Gravel: Continental Terra Speed 45mm tires for comfort, speed, and extra protection
E-Bikes: 2.4 -2.6 inch tubeless tires for maximum comfort and protection.
Hardtails: 2.25-2.4inch tubeless tires. Maximum grip, comfort, and protection. (We use Schwalbe, Maxxis, Continental, or Vittoria premium tubeless tires)
Hydraulic disc brakes across our entire road, gravel, mountain, and e-bike fleets for reliable stopping power on technical descents.
Road bike handlebar tape. All our road bikes use 3.0mm or 3.5mm Fizik handlebar tape for extra hand comfort. (Some bikes come with 2.0- 2.5 mm tape, which we replace later).
Can I bring my own saddle? Yes, you can bring your saddle and we fit it to our bikes.
How many bottle cages do your bikes have? All our road and gravel bikes have 2 water bottle cages. E-bikes have 1 water bottle cage. Mountain bikes have 1 or 2 cages depending on the frame size
Should I bring my own pedals? In our bike center, we have Shimano SPD-SL, Shimano SPD, Look Keo, and flat pedals. (Also, for emergencies, we have Time, Crankbrothers, and Wahoo (Speedplay), but you can not book them. We recommend using your pedals, as you are used to them (how tight they are). We can connect them to our bikes
Helmets? The use of helmets is mandatory. We provide helmets in all sizes.

GPS mounts: We have GARMIN, WAHOO, and BRYTON GPS handlebar mounts.
Floor pump or mini compressor (not bookable).

Final Checklist Before You Rent
Verify Sizing: Send your height and saddle height (from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle) in advance so your bike is fitted before arrival.
Book Ahead for Peak Season: High-end road and e-bikes sell out fast between April and October.
Plan Your Routes: Ensure your rental provider offers custom route recommendations or navigation support so you hit the quietest, most scenic backroads.
