technique

LEVEL 1: Easy

Basic knowledge of riding, braking and changing gears.

The are no dangerous downhills.

The terrain is solid dirt roads with 1-2 very small sections of 20-50meters that some rides may push the bike.

LEVEL 2: Moderate

You have good bike control on gravelly or sandy tracks and confidence on some steep ascents and descents

LEVEL 3: Demanding

You have very good bike control on descents and climbs with rough gravelly slopes and singletrack where the surface is loose.

LEVEL 4: Difficult

Advanced bike control on any terrain with steep slopes, rocky loose sections and single track.

LEVEL 1: Easy

A route in an area with small road network.

There are no paths and is difficult to get lost.

Usually these routes are on the mountains of Crete where the road network is very small or on well signposted main roads.

A good map of Crete with scale 1:50.000 is more than enough.

LEVEL 2: Moderate

A route in an area with several junctions and crossroads.

The road network is small and there are well signposted paths.

A drawing with notes or a photocopy of a map is enough but necessary.

LEVEL 3: Demanding

A route with some sections in areas with lots of roads and some sections in areas with small road network.

The paths are not well signposted.

A use of a map is not enough, it is essential to use and a gps.

LEVEL 4: Difficult

A route in an area that the road network is large, the paths are not signposted and is easy to get lost.

These are agricultural areas with lots of roads for the farmers.

A map of Crete with scale 1:50.000 and a gps are necessary.

It is highly recommended to prepare and study the route one day before on the map or on google earth.
