Description

The ride starts from the square of Elounda with a relaxed warm-up next to the sea until Plaka. Before Plaka at the nearest point to Spinalonga you can gaze the little island with the Venetian fort that was once used as a place of exile for the lepers.

The most beautiful part of the route is the road next to the sea from Plaka village, until the wind generators. The ride by the sea and the view of Spinalonga, Oxa mountain and Elounda Bay is breathtaking.

At the wind generators you can descend until Aforesmenos, visit the old lighthouse and admire the vastness of the sea.

When returning back before the chapel go right and follow the old path until Vrouchas village, stop in a cafe and enjoy a coffee before returning to Plaka.

The road from Vrouchas to Plaka is asphalt, it is steep, fast and the view is fantastic. Beware of the cars.

At the last turn before Plaka go right on a dirt road to ascend to Ano and Kato Pines villages. The road is initially full of pebbles, but after 200meters is getting better but has a steep sections where beginners will push their bikes. From Pines follow the asphalt road, you will pass next to an impressive canyon and you reach Pano Elounda.

You must enter into the village, pedal through the narrow streets and descent to Elounda through the old path.

If you want to swim the best place is the small beach at Kolokitha Island. In the summer come the boats filled with tourists and is very crowded. After noon, the beach will be much more peaceful.

...and explore Crete on your own!
